Introduction:

In the ā€œgame of life,ā€ there’s a hidden points system tracking your positive actions—Tokens, Power-ups, and Miracles. But there’s also a darker scoreboard measuring your negative habits. Each small grievance, fear, or destructive habit contributes to Blocks, which can escalate into Hexes, and ultimately, if unchecked, morph into powerful Curses.

Unlike a video game, there’s no status bar telling you, ā€œWarning: Hex approaching!ā€ But if you pay attention to the rising friction in your life—constant drama, missed opportunities, or emotional heaviness—you might see the signs. Below, we break down how negativity progresses through three tiers: Blocks, Hexes, and Curses, using the same eleven categories as before.

Oh, and don’t forget to check out how those delightfully terrible dark types are out here bestowing blocks, hexes, and full-blown curses like it’s their job. (Spoiler: It is their job.) Click here out before they gaslight you into thinking they don’t exist.

Tier 1: Blocks (Everyday Negativity)

Think of Blocks as the minor status ailments you accumulate through smaller, consistent bouts of negativity—like a slow drip that adds up over time. They’re easy to miss, but they make daily life noticeably harder. This is not a complete list of all the blocks in the game. These may last a couple of days to a couple of weeks.

Examples Blocks:

1. Block of Confusion: Indecisiveness in daily tasks, letting small doubts pile up.

2. Block of Scarcity: Feeling anxious about money or resources, even if you’re managing okay.

3. Block of Fear: Minor anxieties that keep you from trying new experiences.

4. Block of Apathy: Small waves of ā€œmeh,ā€ skipping beneficial routines because you just can’t be bothered.

5. Block of Discord: A mini-argument or tension in social settings.

6. Block of Entitlement: Mild grumbling that life should be ā€œeasierā€ for you.

7. Block of Limitation: Dismissing feasible ideas, telling yourself ā€œI can’tā€ without giving it a shot.

8. Block of Weakness: Letting tiny setbacks ruin your mood for the day.

9. Block of Imbalance: Small signs of burnout or slacking, with no consistent middle ground.

10. Block of Doubt: Quietly questioning if anything good can really last.

11. Block of Isolation: Slight withdrawal from friends or family, ignoring calls and texts, but still showing some engagement.

Tier 2: Hexes (Mid-Level Negativity)

When Blocks go unaddressed, they grow into Hexes—stronger negative forces that sabotage entire areas of your life. At this point, the impact is harder to ignore. These may last several weeks to several months

Examples Hexes

1. Hex of Confusion: You’re so overwhelmed with choices you can’t move forward on important goals.

2. Hex of Scarcity: Chronic money troubles or resource issues, feeling perpetually broke or short on time.

3. Hex of Fear: Major avoidance—you turn down promotions or opportunities because you’re too paralyzed to act.

4. Hex of Apathy: Ongoing emotional numbness; hobbies and relationships suffer, and you can’t muster motivation.

5. Hex of Discord: Frequent fights or drama in relationships—friends, family, partners—fraying those bonds.

6. Hex of Entitlement: You genuinely believe others owe you everything, straining or ending relationships when expectations aren’t met.

7. Hex of Limitation: You stay stuck in the same job or lifestyle for years, convinced you can’t improve.

8. Hex of Weakness: Frequent meltdowns, giving up on significant challenges or tasks at the first sign of hardship.

9. Hex of Imbalance: Wild swings—binge working, then total inertia; or emotional roller-coasters that wear you out.

10. Hex of Doubt: Persistent cynicism, refusing to see or believe in good outcomes; negativity dominates your mindset.

11. Hex of Isolation: You cut off meaningful connections or self-sabotage relationships out of distrust or emotional shutdown.

Tier 3: Curses (High-Level Negativity)

Curses are the endgame of unchecked negativity. They have the power to derail your life’s course entirely and leave you feeling hopeless. In game terms, this is where the final boss of self-sabotage might leave you on the brink of a ā€œGame Over.ā€ These usually last for several years and if not dealt with you may pass these behaviors onto future generations.

Examples Curses

1. Curse of Confusion: Total inability to discern reality from anxiety. You can’t make any major decisions, missing critical life opportunities.

2. Curse of Scarcity: Extreme lack—persistent poverty or severe isolation from resources due to deeply ingrained belief that there’s ā€œnever enough.ā€

3. Curse of Fear: You become so paralyzed you won’t leave your comfort zone, effectively halting your growth and undermining relationships or careers.

4. Curse of Apathy: Life loses color—true depression or existential dread may take over, leaving you disconnected from everything.

5. Curse of Discord: A pattern of broken relationships, constant turmoil, or even legal issues due to ongoing conflict.

6. Curse of Entitlement: Alienation from your community or loved ones, because no one can meet your endless demands—leading to loneliness and bitterness.

7. Curse of Limitation: You resign yourself to a minimal life, never pursuing dreams or potential, haunted by regret.

8. Curse of Weakness: You crumble under major pressures, potentially losing jobs, relationships, or opportunities due to lack of resilience.

9. Curse of Imbalance: Your mental and physical health suffer from extreme stress or neglect, risking burnout or crisis-level issues.

10. Curse of Doubt: Hope becomes foreign; you expect failure in every area, possibly manifesting a downward spiral.

11. Curse of Isolation: Profound loneliness, cutting off any chance of meaningful connection or self-love, leading to a deep-seated sense of despair.

Avoiding the Downward Spiral

1. Identify the Early Signs: Spot Blocks before they become Hexes—ask yourself, ā€œAm I feeling constant negativity or tension in this area of my life?ā€

2. Practice Self-Compassion: You’re not doomed to a Curse. Recognize the negativity, forgive yourself, and actively seek solutions.

3. Use Positive Countermeasures: Each Block has a corresponding positive Token. For instance, the Token of Abundance counters the Block of Scarcity. Practice the antidote consistently.

4. Seek Help When Needed: Don’t be afraid to talk to a friend, mentor, or professional. The bigger the Hex, the more you might benefit from outside support.

5. Stay Aware: Even if you break free from a Hex, old patterns can sneak back. Keep a balanced watch on your mindset and habits.

Final Thoughts

Just as small acts of kindness can snowball into life-changing Miracles, small acts of negativity can spiral down into destructive Curses if left unchecked. The key is to stay aware, address negativity early, and remember that you always have the power to reverse course. Even the darkest Curse can be lifted through consistent effort, self-awareness, and a willingness to replace negativity with the light of compassion, courage, and love.

So keep an eye on those Blocks—don’t let them pile up. Spot the Hexes before they take root, and avoid sliding into the realm of Curses. In life’s grand balancing act, being mindful of the dark side is just as important as celebrating the light. After all, acknowledging what drags us down is often the first step to lifting ourselves up.
